Background
Erkan Akdemir is a seasoned executive and strategist in the Turkish telecommunications and technology sectors, best known for his leadership roles at Türk Telekom and Avea. He graduated from Hacettepe University with a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and later earned a master’s degree in Telecommunications from the University of Colorado. Akdemir began his career in the public sector as a telecommunications expert at the State Planning Organization, later becoming one of the founding board members of Turkey’s Telecommunications Authority—playing a key role in shaping the country's regulatory landscape.
In 2002, he was appointed Chairman of the Board of Türk Telekom, where he oversaw the company through its critical pre-privatization phase until 2005. After the privatization, he continued to hold several senior executive positions within Türk Telekom Group, contributing to the company’s strategic realignment and modernization. Prior to his role at Avea, he served as General Manager of Cisco Systems Turkey, gaining valuable global perspective in technology operations and market development.
In 2009, Akdemir became the CEO of Avea, one of Turkey’s leading mobile operators. During his tenure, he led a significant organizational transformation focused on operational efficiency, performance culture, and customer-centric growth. Under his leadership, Avea solidified its position in a highly competitive market through strategic investments and internal restructuring.
Following his departure from Türk Telekom Group in 2016, Akdemir transitioned into a consulting career, offering his expertise to a number of prominent Turkish corporations including Sinpaş, Saat & Saat, and Kalyon Holding. He served as a senior consultant at Kalyon PV, contributing to large-scale energy initiatives. Most recently, from 2024 to 2025, he served as the CEO of Kalyon Technology, where he led efforts to develop and implement advanced technology strategies within the group.
